Utah Bear Hunting

If you draw we would love to take you hunting on our ranch, we have a good number of bear on our property with some prospects of some very large boars. These hunts are conducted with the use of highly trained and experienced hound dogs and boy what a thrill!

Southeast Utah has 2 of the best bear units in the state, in the San Juan, and Lasal units, the area produces an unusually high concentration of color phase bears ranging from blonde, to brown, to cinnamon. These are trophy bear units with most of the bears we harvest going between 19-21″. Come follow a well trained pack of hounds in some of the most beautiful and rugged country in Utah. Bear hunting with hounds is one of the most physically demanding and rewarding hunts we offer.

The fun and experienced guides of Boulder Mountain Adventures have been hunting these areas for over 30 years and guiding professionally for the past 15 years. Being year round residents and on the mountain almost everyday gives us a great advantage of knowing where these trophy animals are at all times and where they go when they are not where they are supposed to be. Our scouting begins in the spring and summer months while guiding fly fishing and fly fishing pack trips. The key factors to a successful hunt are being able to locate the game, knowing the nature of the species you are pursuing and having the ability to field score the animal prior the kill. We love the outdoors and the thrill of a Black Bear hunt, especially when following a pack of well trained hounds. We have been raising and training hounds for Black Bear Hunting for over 20 years. This hunt entails using well trained bear hounds of various breeds to run the bear. We do this by "rigging" with strike dogs. Once the hounds scent the bear, they are released to track and tree the bear. Each dog is equipped with a radio collar to monitor their direction and activity. The dogs are followed by vehicle or foot, depending on the location. Once the bear is treed or bayed up we move into position for the hunter to take his shot. A Bear hunt with hounds can sometimes become a physical fitness test. We recommend anyone interested in a hound hunt to be in excellent physical condition. There is nothing more frustrating for a hunter than to lack the stamina to make the entire run. For those wishing to pursue this hunt, you are in for a very exciting time. Most of our Bear are color phase black bear, cinnamon, brown, and some blonde. They generally square 6 to 7 1/2 feet and score 18 to 21.
