When the leaves start to rustle, the nights get frosty and the elk begin to bugle, we turn our full attention to hunting. Our main hunting camp is on the Big Salmon River, in the heart of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, 24 miles from the end of the road. Area 150 is one of the few to allow rifle hunting for elk during the peak of the rut. We also offer hunting for Mule Deer, Black Bear, Mountain Goat, and Mountain Lion.

Our spring bear hunts start April 15th and ends June 15th. We truly have the best bear hunting in the state of Montana. With every variation of color-phase black bears (brown, cinnamon, chocolate, brown, blonde and red) it is a great opportunity to harvest a truly amazing black bear. We take pride in harvesting older age class bears that are true trophies. Our method of hunting is glassing clear cuts, south facing slopes, clover covered logging roads that are gated, and calling. Our fall bear hunts start in September and run through November. Early in the fall season the black bears are filling their bellies on the last remaining berry crop in preparation of the upcoming hibernation they will soon be faced with.

SPRING BEAR HUNT Bears are very active in the spring as they emerge from their winter nap and set out to replace body fat lost during hibernation. New growth grass and winter killed elk and deer are high on the menu. The spring bear hunt runs from mid April to mid June and can be hunted with either a bow or rifle. Remember your bear license must be purchased before opening day of the bear season. You will want to bring your varmint gun and plenty of ammo along on this hunt

Spring bear hunts are run April 15th through June 15th. Fall Bear can be hunted in combination with our elk and deer hunts Sept. through Nov. These hunts are fair chase, spot and stalk. Our spring bear hunts run eight nights and seven days. Transportation to hunting areas are 4-wheel drive vehicles or horses,but most of the hunting will be on foot. License must be obtained by April 14th for the spring season. The units we hunt are 204, 240, 250, 260, 261 and 270 On the Bitterroot National Forest and in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness.

When game gets big, adrenaline transforms the entire experience and your skill as a hunter. Our area is home to some of the best black bear hunting in Montana. You can hunt in spring and fall. Montana bear hunting is pure fair chase, no baiting or use of dogs–in fact we can’t even use scents. Spring bear season starts April 15th in and runs until May 15th. There are a good number of bear in our area. Since our winters are sometimes long, and the snowmelt is late, we encourage you come as late in the spring as possible. This provides more areas to access and hunt. Larger bear emerge later in the spring season, too. Spotting and stalking are the main methods used in this hunt.

Our Montana Bear Hunt takes place on the LoLo National Forest in western Montana. We mainly hunt theses trophy bears in the spring months of May and June. After the bears emerge from their winter dens they start to feed on the fresh growing green grasses. Our main method of hunting these bears is glassing from a high vantage point looking for bears feeding on the south facing slopes. Most of the hunting is done by foot. It is important that you be in good physical shape as it will increase your odds of being successful.
