Overview

This hunt entails using well trained bear hounds of various breeds to run the bear. We do this by "rigging" with strike dogs. Once the hounds scent the bear, they are released to track and tree the bear. Each dog is equipped with a radio collar to monitor their direction and activity. The dogs are followed by vehicle or foot, depending on the location. Once the bear is treed or bayed up we move into position for the hunter to take his shot. A Bear hunt with hounds can sometimes become a physical fitness test. We recommend anyone interested in a hound hunt to be in excellent physical condition. There is nothing more frustrating for a hunter than to lack the stamina to make the entire run. For those wishing to pursue this hunt, you are in for a very exciting time. Most of our Bear are color phase black bear, cinnamon, brown, and some blonde. They generally square 6 to 7 1/2 feet and score 18 to 21.
